Hainault Forest

Hainault Forest is a woodland area spanning 336 acres across the London boroughs of Redbridge and Havering, dotted with ancient trees, lakes, and meadows. The site offers marked walking paths, a visitor center, an 1856 café, outdoor activity areas, and spaces designed for educational programs.

The area was once part of the ancient Forest of Essex and served as a royal hunting ground before becoming a public recreational space. This transformation marked the shift from private use to being open for everyone.

The farm area within the forest keeps domestic animals including sheep, alpacas, and ponies that visitors can watch going about their day. These animals form part of the place's everyday character and offer hands-on connection with livestock.
