South Park, Municipal park in Ilford, United Kingdom
South Park is a 13.5 hectare green space in Ilford featuring a central lake fed by Loxford Water and surrounded by mature oak, beech, lime, and horse chestnut trees. The grounds include open lawns, paved paths, and designated areas for various recreational uses.
The land was acquired from farmer Walter Mills in 1899 and the park officially opened on May 10, 1902 following extensive development work. This marked a turning point for recreational opportunities in the local area.
The Wildlife Education Center occupies a converted former boathouse and offers regular programs where visitors can learn about the local animals and plants that live in the area.
The park is open daily from 8 AM until dusk with multiple entrance points throughout the grounds. Seven Kings station provides convenient public transportation access for visitors arriving by train.
Three bat species inhabit the park including the Common pipistrelle, Soprano pipistrelle, and Common noctule, which visitors can observe during special September watch events. These nocturnal residents make the site noteworthy for wildlife enthusiasts.
