Ilford, Metropolitan center in East London, England
Ilford is a town east of central London within the Borough of Redbridge, crossed by the River Roding. Residential streets, commercial areas and parks such as Valentines Park and South Park spread along both riverbanks.
People settled near this ford on the Roding since Saxon times. The railway arrived in 1839 and turned the village quickly into a residential area for London commuters.
The name comes from the ford across the Roding that travelers once used to cross the river. Today the center holds shops, markets and eateries where residents from many parts of the world meet and spend time together.
The Exchange Ilford shopping center in the heart of town offers many shops, cafés and restaurants. Valentines Park and South Park lie within walking distance and work well for strolling or resting outdoors.
Pioneer Point consists of two residential towers rising 105 and 82 meters (344 and 269 feet), among the tallest buildings in the entire Borough of Redbridge. The towers can be seen from far away and shape the modern skyline.
