Church of Saint John the Baptist, Grade I listed church in Tuebrook, Liverpool, England
The Church of Saint John the Baptist is a Gothic Revival structure in Liverpool built from sandstone with alternating bands of pale and red stone. The building contains a five-bay nave with clerestory windows, north and south aisles, and a west tower.
Construction began in 1867 and finished in 1870, entirely funded by the wife of Reverend J. C. Reade. The project emerged as a major private donation during a period of rapid growth in Liverpool.
The interior displays Victorian decorative painting alongside stained glass windows by Morris & Co and painted panels by CE Kempe within the gilt reredos from 1871. Walking through the church, visitors encounter layers of artistic craftsmanship typical of the period.
The church maintains regular Mass services and offers live streaming for those unable to attend in person. Visitors should know that a weekly food bank also operates from this location.
The Brockman Memorial Hall, part of the church complex, hosted early performances by The Beatles before they achieved international fame. This venue played a role in the beginnings of Liverpool's music scene.
