The Church of St James the Great stands on Church Road with its brick construction and timber framing on a sandstone foundation.
Built in 1866 by George Harris of St Helens, the original chapel expanded in 1891 to accommodate the growing population of Haydock.
The church maintains Anglican traditions under the Diocese of Liverpool, with regular Eucharist services forming the center of worship activities.
The church holds services on Sundays and weekdays, with baptisms occurring most Sundays at 12:15 PM near the local Tesco store.
The building features dark-stained oak woodwork, a 1952 hanging rood, and an icon-style crucifix created by a Romanian artist.
