Church of St John the Baptist, Outwood, Victorian church in Outwood, England
The Church of St John the Baptist in Outwood is a Victorian brick building with a stuccoed tower and walls of knapped stone that display Anglo-Norman characteristics. The structure includes pointed lancet windows throughout and was designed by the architect William Burges.
The building was designed by architect William Burges in 1869, with the tower completed seven years later in 1876 under W.P. Manning's direction. This Victorian period construction shaped the church into its present form.
The church serves as a gathering place where the local community comes together for worship and reflection. The sound of the bells ringing regularly reinforces this sense of shared identity and continuity.
The church sits on National Trust land and is surrounded by dense woodland, fields, and meadows on all sides. The rural location provides a calm setting that is straightforward to visit and explore at your own pace.
The church holds Grade II listed status and underwent major restoration work in 2018 to repair external stonework and structural elements. This investment ensured the building's long-term care and preservation.
