Church of St Leonard, Old Warden, Norman church in Old Warden, England
The Church of St Leonard features brown stone walls with limestone facings and a square tower rising to about 62 feet. The building combines architectural elements from different periods and was expanded and modified over many centuries.
The building was founded around 1150 and underwent major changes in the 13th century with a rebuilt chancel. Further modifications to the nave came later in the 14th century.
The interior contains carved wooden panels from the 16th and 17th centuries, including sections from Anne of Cleves' chapel marked with her initials. These carvings reflect the local craftsmanship tradition that was maintained over centuries.
The building sits off Church Lane with a dedicated parking area nearby. Services are held on Sundays, with timing varying according to the church calendar.
The south porch was added in 1952 and displays a Latin inscription ISTO VELOCIOR VITA. It commemorates Richard Ormonde Shuttleworth, who died in an aviation accident.
