Craigtoun Country Park, Country park in Fife, United Kingdom.
Craigtoun Country Park is a landscaped park near St Andrews with multiple lakes, formal gardens, and diverse tree species spread across roughly 47 acres. The grounds are organized into different planted areas that blend water features with wooded zones and open spaces.
The grounds originated as part of the Mount Melville Estate before being purchased by Fife County Council in 1947 to establish a public park. The gardens themselves were designed by architect Paul W. Waterhouse during the early 1900s.
The formal gardens reflect early 20th-century design ideals, creating distinct zones that show how people of that era valued organized nature and carefully composed outdoor spaces.
The park is free to visit throughout the year, though seasonal activities such as miniature trains and boat rentals operate from Easter to October. Wear comfortable shoes since the various garden areas and waterside paths involve different terrain types.
The park provides habitat for red squirrels and water voles alongside grey herons, animals visitors can spot moving through the different areas. These creatures share the grounds with unusual tree species including Portuguese laurel and Wellingtonia.
