The Cumberland Pencil Company established this museum in 1981 to showcase their pencil manufacturing history dating back to 1832 in the Lake District region.
The museum exhibits display secret World War II pencils containing concealed maps, illustrating how writing instruments served military intelligence purposes.
The facility includes a gift shop selling the complete range of Derwent Fine Art Pencils, a coffee shop serving refreshments, and provides free WiFi for visitors.
Within the museum stands one of the largest colored pencils globally, measuring 7.91 meters in length and weighing 446.36 kilograms, created in 2001.
