Creigiau Gleision

Creigiau Gleision, Mountain summit in Snowdonia National Park, Wales, Great Britain.

Description

Creigiau Gleision rises to 678 meters with steep crags that drop toward the Llyn Cowlyd reservoir and frame views across multiple Welsh valleys. The exposed ridges and surrounding slopes shape the character of this prominent peak within the Carneddau range.

History

An ancient trade route once crossed the mountain, linking the settlements of Capel Curig and Trefriw for centuries. This passage through the higher terrain shows how mountain passes were essential to connecting Welsh communities in earlier times.

Culture

The peak belongs to the Carneddau range, a place where climbers have long tested their skills against harsh mountain conditions. Today, walkers on the slopes can sense this climbing heritage in how the mountain attracts experienced adventurers.

Practical

A circular route from Capel Curig covers roughly 15 kilometers with about 730 meters of elevation gain over mixed terrain. Navigation equipment and sturdy boots are needed since the path includes exposed sections that can experience unpredictable weather.

Did you know?

The ridge includes sections of white quartzite rock that set this summit apart from neighboring peaks in northern Snowdonia. These pale stones catch the light on sunny days, creating an unexpected visual feature within the darker landscape around it.
