Cors Fochno

Cors Fochno is a wetland reserve spanning over 260 hectares of peat bogs, marshes, fens, and damp grasslands near the Dyfi estuary. The area contains varied habitats where plants like cottongrass and sundew grow in wet conditions.

The peatland developed over thousands of years and was harvested for fuel during past centuries. Parts were drained to support farming until conservation efforts restored and protected the area.

The wetland holds importance for local communities as a place where rare plants and birds thrive year-round. Visitors can experience how this landscape has shaped environmental awareness in Wales.

Visitors can walk along a wooden boardwalk on the northern side to explore the wetland and observe plants and birds. The route is fairly level and easy to follow, making it accessible for most people.

This is the largest surviving primary raised bog in the United Kingdom, situated within an estuary landscape. The bog demonstrates how nature thrives best when protected from human extraction and alteration.
