Cotham Church, Gothic Revival church in Cotham, Bristol, England.
Cotham Church is a Gothic Revival structure featuring pointed arches, fine stone detailing, and a prominent tower that rises distinctly above the neighborhood surroundings. The interior comprises multiple spaces designed for worship and community gatherings.
William Butterfield designed this structure in 1842 as Highbury Congregational Chapel, later becoming an Anglican church in 1975 when it transitioned to serve the Church of England community.
Memorials to the Marian Martyrs are displayed on the exterior and inside the building, marking an important chapter in religious history that still shapes the place today.
The building is easily recognizable and accessible from the street, with regular services held throughout the week. Free parking is available on surrounding streets for those visiting.
The structure was built on the former Gallows Field, a historical execution site. A stone from Bewell's Cross is embedded in its boundary wall, serving as a reminder of the location's earlier past.
