Dell Bridge, Port Sunlight

Dell Bridge is a stone arch crossing a landscaped hollow in Port Sunlight, featuring a parabolic vault design reinforced by buttresses. A pedestrian walkway with hardwood benches along its sides connects different sections of the village while offering places to sit.

The bridge was built in 1894 by architects Douglas and Fordham for Lever Brothers as part of the village's development. It gained Grade II listed status in 1965, recognizing its architectural importance within this historic settlement.

Carved masks appear on the bridge's stone blocks, showing a Jacobean figure on one side and a Restoration-era figure on the other. This decorative detail reflects the artistic care that shapes the entire village.

Crossing the bridge is straightforward with benches available for rest along the way through the village. The stone structure is solid and well maintained, making it safe and accessible for pedestrians of all ages.

The eastern side displays a Latin inscription marking the year built, while the western side features a working sundial. These two features record time in different ways and make the bridge memorable for those who notice them.
