The Georgian structure of Coleg Harlech stands near Harlech Castle, featuring an Arts and Crafts architectural design by George Henry Walton named Plas Wernfawr.
Founded in 1927 by Thomas Jones, the college began with six students from South Wales Coalfield and expanded to accommodate seventy students by the 1960s.
The institution provided residential education opportunities for mature students who previously had limited access to higher education through its University of Wales validated programs.
The college campus contained multiple facilities including the Theatr Ardudwy performance space, constructed in 1973 to replace the original Great Hall.
The Welsh Government received a petition with over 6,000 signatures in 2021 requesting the repurchase and renovation of the closed educational institution.
