Crosbie Castle and the Fullarton estate, Medieval castle ruins in South Ayrshire, Scotland.
Crosbie Castle consists of medieval ruins in South Ayrshire featuring a dungeon tower with an underground stream running through it. The remains sit near the former Fullarton House site on grounds now accessible as a park.
Robert II granted the Crosbie estate to the Fullarton family in 1344, who held and managed it for centuries afterward. The castle stones were later reused when building the first Fullarton House, while the dungeon was converted to serve as an ice storage.
The nearby Crosbie Church, recorded from 1229 onward, sits at the edge of Fullarton Park with its current building from 1691. The church and castle ruins together form a historic site where you can see different layers of local history.
The site is accessible today within a park setting where you can view the ruins and the nearby church on foot. Walking the grounds gives you time to examine each part of this historic location at your own pace.
An underground stream flows through the castle chambers, making it naturally cool for storing ice during warmer months. This natural cooling system was valued long before artificial refrigeration existed.
