Dogdyke Engine

The Dogdyke Engine is a pumping station and museum in Tattershall that operated machinery to drain water between two rivers. The facility contains a large flywheel, a cylinder, and a gearbox connected to a large scoop wheel.

The station was built in 1856 and replaced older windmill engines that had been used for drainage since 1540. A boiler was added later and the system was gradually modernized to keep pace with technology.

The station displays steam and diesel engines side by side, showing different periods of industrial engineering. Visitors can see how machinery and mechanical design changed over roughly 80 years.

The site is accessible to visitors, especially during summer months when the machinery is in operation. Visitors should expect unpaved paths and an industrial setting and should wear appropriate clothing.

A Lancashire boiler installed in 1909 remains in operation and shows how old industrial equipment continues to function with modern adjustments. This relic offers a glimpse of how Victorian engineering is preserved to the present day.
