Ednaston Manor, Grade I listed country house in Brailsford, England
Ednaston Manor is an H-shaped country house built with two floors and attics using reddish-brown Bedfordshire brick. The structure includes single-story corner pavilions and numerous substantial chimneys, with attached walls and terraced areas surrounding the property.
The house was designed and built between 1912 and 1919 by architect Edwin Lutyens for William G Player. It received Grade I listed status in 1967, recognizing its architectural importance in English building heritage.
The manor reflects early 1900s English upper-class design choices through its Queen Anne architectural features and traditional country house layout. These style choices shaped how wealthy families at the time imagined their ideal rural homes.
The property sits along Derby Road in Brailsford and is visible from the outside. Walking around the grounds helps you take in the brick details and terraced layout more fully.
Archaeological digs in 2007 uncovered brick foundations beneath the lawn pointing to an unfinished billiard room addition in the northwest corner. These hidden remains reveal modifications the original owner had planned for the property.
