Dun Skeig

Three separate duns occupy the hilltop position, with stone walls measuring up to 18 feet thick at the highest point of West Loch Tarbert.

The fortification site contains structures from different periods, including an oval-shaped dun where stones were later reused for constructing the third defensive structure.

The strategic position of this ancient stronghold allowed tribal leaders to control maritime traffic and maintain surveillance over the waterways toward the Hebrides.

Visitors can reach the site by parking in Clachan village and following the track up the hill, though the terrain becomes steep and muddy in wet conditions.

The site features a rare combination of three distinct dun structures built in succession, each representing different construction techniques from the Iron Age period.
