East Greenwich Pleasaunce, Park and naval cemetery in Greenwich, England.
East Greenwich Pleasaunce is a park and cemetery in the Royal Borough of Greenwich, combining formal garden areas with shaded pathways across the grounds. The site also has a children's playground, table tennis tables, a community center, and a cafe.
The site opened in 1857 as Greenwich Hospital Cemetery and received the remains of around 3,000 sailors moved here in 1875 when railway construction forced the relocation of an earlier burial ground. War memorials for naval officers from both World War I and World War II were added later.
The old gravestones stand among the lawns and paths, giving the park a quieter, more reflective feel than most green spaces in the area. Locals use it as an everyday place to walk or sit, treating the historic ground as part of their neighborhood.
The park has several entrances and broad paths that are easy to walk along for most visitors. Benches and restrooms are available throughout the grounds, so it is comfortable to stay for a longer visit.
The name Pleasaunce comes from the former Royal Palace of Placentia, which stood nearby and was one of the main royal residences of England in the 1400s. Today, only the name keeps that connection alive.
