Estate Exchange, Victorian office building in Fountain Street, Manchester, England
The Estate Exchange is a four-story Victorian office building located at 46 Fountain Street with Italian palazzo-style architecture. Its red brick walls are accented with sandstone detailing, and the building features a slate roof that has protected it for over 160 years.
Thomas Worthington designed the original structure as the Overseers' and Churchwardens' Offices in 1852. An expansion in 1858 added the top two floors, enlarging the building to accommodate growing administrative demands.
The Estate Exchange received Grade II* listed status in 1974, marking its place among Manchester's most important architectural heritage structures.
The building now houses solicitors' offices and can be observed from the street during business hours. Its location on Fountain Street puts it in the heart of Manchester's city center, making it easy to find while exploring the area.
Each floor displays distinct architectural details, with oval stone-framed windows in the attic section being particularly noteworthy. These smaller decorative elements across each level reveal the careful craftsmanship invested in every part of the building.
