George Stephenson's Birthplace
George Stephenson's Birthplace, House museum in Wylam, Northumberland, England.
The two-storey stone cottage features a single room that housed four families during the 18th century along the north bank of River Tyne.
Built around 1760 for mining families, this cottage gained recognition as the birthplace of George Stephenson in 1781, who later revolutionized railway transportation.
The National Trust preserves this Grade II* listed building as a testament to industrial innovation and the living conditions of 18th-century mining communities.
Access to the cottage requires a 0.4-mile walk from the main car park in Wylam village, following the path along the former wagon way.
The rocking chair from George Stephenson's later life remains displayed inside this smallest National Trust property in Northumberland.
