Explosion Museum of Naval Firepower, Naval museum in Gosport, England.
The Explosion Museum displays missiles, torpedoes, and small arms within an 18th-century depot that once stored supplies for British naval vessels at Priddy's Hard. The buildings show how munitions were made and stored for wartime needs.
The site opened in the 18th century as a munitions depot for the Royal Navy and operated for over 200 years. Operations ended in 1982, after which the buildings were converted into a museum.
The name Priddy's Hard comes from an early commandant, and exhibits here document the lives of munitions workers who toiled in these buildings. Visitors can trace how central these workers were to naval operations.
The museum is open Wednesday through Sunday, with extended hours during school holidays. Comfortable shoes are recommended since exploring the outdoor areas and various buildings involves considerable walking.
The Night Hunters gallery houses two authentic wartime boats: a speedy patrol craft from 1941 and a torpedo-armed fast boat from 1940. These vessels give visitors a direct sense of the combat craft that actually saw service.
