Gean House, Category A listed building in Alloa, United Kingdom.
Gean House sits on Tullibody Road displaying Arts and Crafts architectural features including steeply pitched roofs, tall chimneys, and a side entrance. The building underwent major restoration in 1999 and returned to private residential use in 2018.
Alexander Forrester-Paton, managing director of Patons woollen yarn company, commissioned architect William Kerr in 1911 to design this house as a wedding gift. The residence was built during the height of the Arts and Crafts movement in Scotland.
The mansion blends traditional living spaces such as a grand hall and library with modern conveniences including central heating and electric lighting. This fusion reflects the belief that comfort and refinement could coexist in a family home.
The house is privately owned and not open to the public, but its architecture and grounds can be appreciated from the street. The location on Tullibody Road makes it straightforward to locate and view from outside.
The property extends beyond the main house and includes several lodges, a walled garden, glasshouses, and a garage as supporting structures. These outbuildings were designed as part of a unified composition meant to integrate the residence with its surrounding landscape.
