Glover's Island, River island in Richmond upon Thames, England

The tree-covered Glover's Island spans 0.536 acres between Richmond Lock and Teddington Lock in the River Thames.

Joseph Glover, a Richmond waterman, purchased the island for £70 in 1872 and later attempted to sell it for £5,000 in 1895.

The island holds environmental significance within the Thames, protected by a covenant established in 1900 that prevents any development.

The island remains inaccessible to the public, maintaining its natural state as a protected part of the River Thames ecosystem.

During World War II in 1940, the island provided refuge for Humboldt penguins from London Zoo after bombing damaged their enclosure.
