Granby Halls, Entertainment venue in Leicester, United Kingdom
Granby Halls was an entertainment complex in Leicester comprising two main buildings: a concert hall and an ice skating rink. The site occupied a central location near Welford Road Stadium and Nelson Mandela Park.
The halls were built in 1915 as training facilities for British Army recruits during World War I. After the war, they were converted into an entertainment venue that hosted events for decades.
The venue served as a gathering place for music fans and sports supporters across generations. Memories of live performances and local basketball matches remain part of many residents' personal histories.
The venue was conveniently located between Leicester Royal Infirmary and Nelson Mandela Park, making it easy for visitors to reach. The central position meant pedestrian access was straightforward from nearby streets.
After closing, the building stood vacant for three years before being demolished in 2001. The site was then redeveloped into a hotel as part of a Leicester Tigers rugby club development project.
