Hertford Museum, Local museum in Bull Plain, Hertford, England
Hertford Museum is a local museum in Hertfordshire with four galleries displaying archaeology, natural history, fine art, geology, and social history of the region. The spaces bring together zoological specimens, geological samples, crafts, and artwork from different periods and communities.
The museum was founded in 1903 by brothers Robert Thornton Andrews and William Frampton Andrews at their insurance company location. A decade later, it relocated to its current Bull Plain address in 1913, where it has remained.
The museum shows how people in Hertfordshire lived and worked through its collections of objects from daily life and local trades. Visitors can see how ordinary activities shaped the character of the region over time.
The museum is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM and Sunday from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM with no entrance fee. Visiting on weekdays offers a more relaxed experience than busy weekend periods.
The museum houses the Addis company archive, holding the world's largest collection of toothbrushes that documents the history of dental care. This unusual collection tells the story behind an everyday item most people never think about.
