Highfields Park, Nottingham, Grade II listed park in Lenton, England
Highfields Park is a large park in Nottingham built around a central boating lake with walking paths and planted areas throughout the grounds. The 21-hectare space features natural rock formations along the waterside and numerous mature trees.
The park was created in 1920 when Sir Jesse Boot, founder of Boots and Co Ltd, purchased the Highfields Estate as part of establishing the University of Nottingham. The grounds were designed to serve as green space for the new academic campus.
The Nottingham Model Boat Club conducts sailing activities every Sunday morning at the lake, maintaining a tradition that started in 1931.
The park is open for walking, rest areas, and water activities on the lake throughout most of the year. Boat rentals and water sports are available during the warmer months with specific operating hours, so it is best to check conditions before visiting.
A small stream called Tottle Brook runs beneath the park through a specially built underground channel that was engineered into the grounds. This hidden water feature allows the surface to be used freely for walking and recreation while the natural watercourse continues underground.
