Lakeland Motor Museum, Independent motor museum in Backbarrow, England
Lakeland Motor Museum houses over 30,000 motoring artifacts, including classic cars, motorcycles, bicycles, and automotive memorabilia under one roof. The collection spans multiple decades of engineering evolution and personal transportation history.
The museum was founded in 1978 at Grange-over-Sands and moved to a former Reckitt's Blue Dye Works facility in Backbarrow in 2010. This relocation allowed the collection to expand significantly and reach a broader audience.
The Campbell Bluebird Exhibition honors the achievements of Sir Malcolm Campbell and Donald Campbell, who set 21 world speed records for Britain. Visitors can trace the connection between speed and British engineering prowess through the displayed vehicles.
The museum is open daily until 4:30 PM and offers free parking, a riverside café, and a gift shop throughout the site. Wheelchair access is available in all areas of the facility.
The collection includes a 1936 Bentley once owned by Donald Campbell and a faithful recreation of a 1920s garage complete with period equipment. These rare pieces offer insight into the life of a legendary speed racer.
