Rusland Hall

Rusland Hall is an English country house in Colton with a main structure dating from 1720 and substantial extensions added during the 1840s. The building sits at the head of Rusland Valley, surrounded by 400 acres of deciduous woodland positioned between Lake Windermere and Coniston.

The Rawlinson family owned the estate from the 17th century until 1750, when it passed to the Archibald family. This change of ownership marked a turning point in how the property was developed and managed in subsequent generations.

The hall once housed a specialized collection of mechanical musical instruments from 1970 to 1987, showcasing how people enjoyed automated entertainment in earlier times. Visitors could observe these intricate machines and understand their place in the history of leisure activities.

The building sits in a wooded setting that visitors can explore without lengthy planning for access. Its location between two well-known lakes makes travel arrangements straightforward for most visitors.
