Luxhay Reservoir, reservoir in Somerset, England, UK
Luxhay Reservoir is a man-made lake near Angersleigh in Somerset, England, managed by Wessex Water. The water surface reflects the surrounding fields and trees, with a shoreline of just over one kilometer where visitors can walk along calm banks.
The dam was constructed around 1905 to store water for the town of Taunton. Leaks were discovered in the dam wall during the late 1960s, leading to significant repairs in the 1990s that included installing a diaphragm wall to prevent further seepage.
The reservoir is not open to the public for swimming or fishing, but walking trails run along the shoreline for strolls and bird watching. No facilities are available on site, so visitors should bring their own supplies and come prepared for outdoor conditions.
Water comes from multiple sources including Otterhead Lakes and Blagdon Reservoir, making it part of a larger regional system. In 2006, a bloom of Microcystins was recorded, revealing how water quality requires constant monitoring to protect both wildlife and the water supply.
