Media City Footbridge

The Media City Footbridge is a pedestrian bridge that spans across the Manchester Ship Canal, connecting the MediaCityUK development with surrounding areas of Greater Manchester. The structure accommodates both pedestrians and cyclists and creates a direct link between public transport stops and the many facilities within the complex.

The bridge opened in 2011 as part of a major transformation project that converted former industrial docklands into a modern media and technology district. This development marked an important turning point in the history of Salford Quays, revitalizing what had become outdated harbor areas.

The footbridge connects several cultural venues including The Lowry theatre, the Imperial War Museum North, and BBC broadcasting facilities. It allows visitors to walk between these places and creates a smooth transition through the media district.

The bridge accommodates both pedestrians and cyclists, so watch out for people on bikes as you cross. It can become slippery in wet weather, though good lighting makes it safe to use even at night.

The structure features a distinctive twisting form designed by WilkinsonEyre architects, making it a striking design landmark in the area. Specialized lighting systems illuminate the bridge in the evening, transforming it into a glowing guide through the district.
