Frogmore Estate, Grade I listed garden in Windsor and Maidenhead, England.
Frogmore Estate is a Grade I listed garden within Home Park in Windsor and Maidenhead, England. The grounds cover around 13.3 hectares with winding footpaths that lead past ornamental plantings and mature woodland.
Queen Charlotte acquired the house in 1792 to use as a country retreat and established the royal association with this location. Later, Queen Victoria built the mausoleum for Prince Albert and chose the estate for her own resting place.
The burial ground lies in the western section of the property and contains monuments and resting places of members of the British royal family. Visitors who attend the opening days can walk through the gardens but cannot approach the mausoleum areas directly.
The estate opens to the public on a handful of days each year when guided tours take visitors through the garden paths. Check in advance which dates allow entry, as availability remains very limited throughout the season.
The marshy ground once flooded regularly and gave this royal property its unusual name. Frogs thrived in the wet meadows for centuries before drainage and landscaping transformed the terrain.
