Museum of Somerset, Local museum in Taunton Castle, England.
The Museum of Somerset contains nine themed galleries displaying artifacts from prehistoric times through modern Somerset history within the castle walls.
Originally established in the 12th century, the building transformed from a medieval castle into a museum space by the Somerset Archaeological Society in 1874.
The museum exhibits the Low Ham Roman Mosaic, Bronze Age Gold Torc, and numerous archaeological discoveries that represent Somerset's regional heritage.
Located at Castle Green in Taunton, the museum opens Tuesday through Saturday from 10:00 to 17:00 with free admission for all visitors.
The museum features a 200-million-year-old Plesiosaur fossil and an 80,000-year-old Banwell Bear skull discovered in Somerset's caves.
