Somerset Military Museum, Military museum in Taunton Castle, England.
The Somerset Military Museum presents collections of weapons, uniforms, medals, photographs, and documents from Somerset's historical military units since 1974.
The museum occupies space in the 12th-century Taunton Castle, where Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother conducted the official opening ceremony in May 1974.
Exhibits illustrate the contributions of Somerset Light Infantry, West Somerset Yeomanry, and North Somerset Yeomanry through artifacts from different military campaigns.
The museum opens Tuesday through Saturday and public holidays from 10:00 to 17:00, with wheelchair access throughout the exhibition spaces.
A silver model of the Gateway of India marks the departure of Somerset Light Infantry as the last British brigade to leave India in 1948.
