Nuneaton Museum & Art Gallery

Nuneaton Museum & Art Gallery is located in Riversley Park and houses over 13,500 objects spanning ethnography, fine art, social history, and industrial heritage. The collection draws from several thematic areas and provides a broad overview of different cultural and historical aspects.

Edward Melly established the museum in 1917, donating paintings, firearms, and ceramics that formed the foundation of its collection. This initial gift shaped the museum's direction and laid the groundwork for its later growth.

The George Eliot collection displays personal items belonging to the author, including a dress, shoes, and musical manuscript that reveal her connection to local life. Visitors can experience the intimate world of an important English writer through objects she actually owned and used.

The museum is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10:30 AM to 4:30 PM and on Sundays from 2:00 PM to 4:30 PM. Visitors should note that weekend visits may require some planning, and holiday hours may differ from regular opening times.

The collection includes items from many periods and cultures, with rare ethnographic objects that visitors often overlook. These pieces reveal connections between different societies and tell stories that extend beyond the local region.
