Denbigh Moors, Mountain range and Site of Special Scientific Interest in Conwy County Borough, Wales.

Denbigh Moors is an elevated terrain across Wales covered with heather moorland, wetlands, and scattered lakes, with the highest point at Mwdwl-eithin peak reaching 532 meters. The ground throughout is boggy and uneven, marked by small water features and rolling hills.

Sheep farmers have used this upland for centuries, gradually adapting their methods to manage the harsh conditions found at elevation. This long-term grazing shaped the landscape into what visitors see today.

The area carries the Welsh name Mynydd Hiraethog and reflects how local people have built their identity around herding and conservation practices over generations. Daily life in nearby settlements remains shaped by the moorland landscape and its needs.

You can walk across the moors using marked paths, with the Sportsmans Arms inn serving as a handy landmark for finding your way around. The ground is wet and soft underfoot throughout, so sturdy boots and weatherproof clothing are needed.

The area holds several reservoirs including Llyn Brenig and Llyn Alwen, built for water supply and now integral to the landscape visitors see. Nearly, Clocaenog Forest harbors one of the last remaining red squirrel populations anywhere in Wales.
