Moreton House

Moreton House sits on Abbotsham Road and displays a stone facade with high ceilings and period details throughout its rooms. The building spans multiple levels and now contains four separate apartments with contemporary facilities.

The Buck family rebuilt the house in 1760 and again in 1821 during different phases of construction. The family took the surname Stucley in 1858 to honor a female ancestor and heiress.

The house functioned as Grenville College from 1956 to 2009, serving as a school that touched the lives of generations in the area. This educational chapter shaped how locals remember the building and its role in their community.

The property is now divided into four apartments available for self-catering stays with families and groups. Historic features remain visible throughout while modern facilities have been incorporated for comfort.

The estate preserves five acres of gardens with tree-lined grounds representing only a fraction of its original parkland. As Bideford expanded, suburban development gradually surrounded what was once open land.
