Morgan's Hill

Morgan's Hill is a 31-acre chalk grassland site near Calne that supports various plant species including upright brome, horseshoe vetch, and autumn gentian. The slopes create different growing conditions that allow these specialized plants to thrive in their natural habitat.

A Marconi wireless receiving station operated here from 1913 to monitor German Zeppelin movements during World War I. This early radio facility was part of a larger defense network protecting Britain.

The location functions as an educational center where researchers and students examine the geological formations and study local ecosystems throughout the year.

You can walk the trails across the site by staying on marked paths to protect the sensitive plants. The area is accessible throughout the year, though wear sturdy footwear for the sloping terrain.

The hill sits at a rare hydrological point where rainfall divides into three separate directions toward different water basins. Water falling here eventually flows toward the English Channel, Atlantic Ocean, or North Sea.
