Ogof y Daren Cilau, Limestone cave system in Mynydd Llangatwg, Wales.
Ogof y Daren Cilau is a limestone cave system located beneath Mynydd Llangatwg in Wales, featuring an extensive network of passages and large underground chambers. The passages contain mineral formations and geological features that visitors encounter as they move through the different sections.
The cave was discovered in 1957 by members of the British Nylon Spinners Caving Club, marking the beginning of systematic exploration in this region. Major discoveries continued through the 1980s, expanding knowledge of the system's extent and structure.
The cave hosts several established underground camps used by cavers exploring deeper sections. These makeshift bases show how specialized groups adapt to the conditions they find far below the surface.
The entrance demands navigating through a challenging crawl space that is only suitable for experienced explorers. Visitors should bring specialized equipment and preferably go with guides familiar with the cave's layout.
A section called the Time Machine contains one of Britain's largest cave passages with impressive dimensions. Another area, the White Company, is notable for its formations of pure white stalactites that stand out under cave lighting.
