Newark Air Museum, Aviation museum in Newark-on-Trent, England.
Newark Air Museum is an aviation museum in Newark-on-Trent that displays more than 95 aircraft and helicopters across two indoor halls and outdoor areas on the grounds of a former RAF base. The collection spans different periods and types of planes, arranged in spacious exhibition spaces where visitors can walk around and examine them closely.
The site was RAF Winthorpe from 1940 to 1945, serving as a training base for bomber crews during the Second World War. After the war ended, the airfield was used for transport flights before eventually becoming a museum.
The museum maintains extensive archives of aviation publications, photographs, and technical documents that detail the development of British military and civil aviation.
The museum is easy to access with wide walkways between the exhibits, though some outdoor areas can become slippery in wet weather. Wear comfortable shoes and allow plenty of time for exploring, as the collection is large and takes a while to see properly.
The museum displays a collection of more than 40 different aircraft engines that are rarely seen together elsewhere. Visitors get access to several helicopter and aircraft cockpits during special events in June to explore the interior of these machines.
