Newark Air Museum, Aviation museum in Newark-on-Trent, England.
Newark Air Museum is an aviation museum in Newark-on-Trent, England, displaying a large collection of aircraft and helicopters across two indoor halls and an outdoor area on the grounds of a former RAF base. The exhibits cover a range of eras, from early propeller planes to post-war jets.
The site operated as RAF Winthorpe during the Second World War, training bomber crews before later being used for transport flights. It eventually became a museum, preserving aircraft and equipment that might otherwise have been lost.
The museum maintains extensive archives of aviation publications, photographs, and technical documents that detail the development of British military and civil aviation.
The paths between the aircraft are wide and easy to walk, but outdoor areas can get slippery after rain, so sturdy shoes are a good idea. The collection takes several hours to see fully, so visiting earlier in the day gives more time to look around.
The museum holds a collection of around 40 aircraft engines, a type of exhibit rarely gathered in one place outside of specialist collections. During special events in June, visitors can climb into the cockpits of several aircraft and helicopters to see what the interior of these machines actually looks like.
