Our Lady of Loreto and St Winefride's, Kew, Catholic church in Kew, England
Our Lady of Loreto and St Winefride's is a Catholic church in Kew built with red brick and featuring Romanesque Revival elements throughout its design. The interior displays semi-circular arches, Doric pilasters, and a barrel-vaulted ceiling running the length of the nave.
The church was designed in 1905 by architect Alexander Scoles, who changed the original Gothic plans to an Italianate style at the request of benefactress Frances Ellis. This modification shaped the building's appearance as seen today.
The church serves as a gathering place for the Catholic community of Kew Gardens, hosting both religious services and community events throughout the year. Its purpose brings together residents and visitors through shared spiritual and social occasions.
The church is located on Leyborne Park and welcomes visitors with flexible participation options including online giving through the Dona platform. Those unable to attend in person can follow services through live broadcasts from home.
RAF pilot Brendan Finucane served as an altar server at this church during his youth before becoming a decorated fighter ace in World War II. His formative years here represent an overlooked chapter of his remarkable wartime story.
