Panfield Priory, Medieval priory ruins in Panfield, Essex, England.
Panfield Priory was an Augustinian priory located north of Great Priory Farm, now visible only through underground foundations embedded in the fields. The archaeological remains suggest a small religious community that likely centered around a church building and simple monastic structures.
The priory was founded between 1069 and 1070 by Waleran Fitz Ranulph and initially operated as a small dependent house under St Etienne Abbey in Caen. It was eventually transferred to Christchurch Canterbury in 1472 following its closure.
The religious institution maintained connections with Canterbury Cathedral, receiving official property transfer to Christchurch Canterbury in 1472 after its dissolution.
The site is accessible across open fields near the village of Panfield, located southeast of Braintree. Wear appropriate footwear and weather-resistant clothing since the location has no visitor facilities or shelter.
Archaeological evidence reveals the priory's foundations in a field, marking the exact position of this former religious establishment from Norman times.
