Oval Raceway, Motor racing circuit in West Sussex
Oval Raceway was a racing track with an oval shape located in Angmering, near Worthing in West Sussex, England. The roughly 25-acre site featured a quarter-mile banked circuit for car racing and a smaller inner oval designed for go-karts, pit bikes, and mini motos.
The track was founded by local resident Jim Hazelgrove, who created a space for racing to take place safely and with excitement. For many years it hosted stock car races and other motorsport events before closing in late 2022 to make room for residential development.
The track served as a community gathering place where racing was a social event, with families and enthusiasts coming together to share the excitement of speed and competition. The close-knit local racing community fostered a culture of friendly rivalry and shared passion that brought people back weekend after weekend.
The site is no longer open for public racing and now serves as a vehicle storage area. Visitors cannot drive on the track, but can view the circuit from outside and learn about the racing history that once made this location popular with local motor sports fans.
The track hosted unusual racing events such as demolition derbies where cars intentionally crashed into each other, caravan races with modified recreational vehicles, and dramatic car jumps. These varied racing formats made the venue stand out from typical motorsport circuits in the region.
