Picklecombe Fort, Military fort in Maker-with-Rame, England.

Picklecombe Fort is a military fortification along Plymouth Sound's coastline featuring a two-story casemate structure built from granite blocks and reinforced with iron shields. The complex was later converted into residential apartments and now houses 103 units with views over the water.

Built between 1864 and 1871 under Lord Palmerston's initiative, this fort formed part of coastal defenses protecting the naval base at Devonport in Plymouth. It was one element of a larger defensive network created during the Victorian era.

The Officers' Mess building displays architectural details inspired by Warwick Castle, reflecting Victorian military design preferences of its era.

The fort sits prominently along the coastline and offers good views from the surrounding area and water. Access may be limited since it now functions as a private residential community rather than a public site.

Despite its military purpose, no shots were ever fired from this installation during its active service as a defensive position. This makes it a unique example of a fort that never saw actual combat.
