Pynes House, English country house in Upton Pyne, United Kingdom.
Pynes House is a four-story brick country residence with Portland stone details, slate roofs, and four large chimney stacks that dominate its roofline. The building sits on grounds spanning about 37 acres with 12 bedrooms and expansive gardens that surround it.
Hugh Stafford built Pynes House between 1700 and 1725, after which it passed to the Northcote family through marriage in 1732.The family retained the estate for many generations, leading to its development and later modifications over time.
The house has a literary connection that some associate with Jane Austen's novel, as it may have inspired the country estate setting in her story. This link to classic English literature draws visitors who appreciate the books from that era.
The house operates today as a venue for events and overnight stays, making use of its numerous rooms and peaceful grounds for guests.Visitors should allow plenty of time to explore both the building and gardens, as the grounds are quite expansive.
Following major renovation work in 1789, the estate and its garden landscape inspired poetry that celebrated its transformation and status. This artistic recognition shows how the property was regarded as a showpiece during the Georgian period.
