Quadrant:MK, Railway operations center in Milton Keynes, England.
Quadrant:MK is a railway operations facility in Milton Keynes made up of four five-story office buildings connected by glass-roofed corridors with about 37,000 square meters of total floor space. The complex houses departments managing engineering, timetable coordination, logistics, and procurement for rail services.
Construction began in 2009 on land where the England National Hockey Stadium once stood, and the complex opened in 2012 as a major railway operations hub. The project transformed a former sports venue into a modern administrative center for rail services.
The workplace design reflects how modern offices function today, with shared desks that employees clear at the end of each day rather than having permanent assigned spaces. This arrangement shows contemporary corporate practices in action.
The complex sits close to Milton Keynes Central railway station, making it straightforward to reach by train or other transport. The interior includes shops and cafes that serve both workers and visitors passing through.
At the heart of the building runs an interior street featuring shops and a WH Smith newsagent, with footbridges crossing overhead to link different departments. This designed internal space gives the workplace an unexpected retail character.
