Priory Hospital

Priory Hospital is a psychiatric hospital in the London Borough of Wandsworth with a Gothic revival building from the early nineteenth century. The facility includes several wings and sections grouped around gardens and courtyards.

William Wood founded the facility in 1872 by converting a private house into London's first private psychiatric hospital. The clinic expanded over the following decades and added more treatment areas.

The name comes from the original residential building that later became a medical facility and still keeps its historic character today. Visitors can see the connection between the old building and its current use as a treatment center.

The facility is located in Roehampton in southwest London and is reachable by public transport. Access to the grounds is only possible with prior arrangement as it is an active medical facility.

A specialized school on the hospital grounds has focused on education for children with autism spectrum disorders since 2010. The school uses its own rooms within the historic structure and combines educational approaches with therapeutic support.
