London Borough of Wandsworth, Administrative borough in South West London, England
Wandsworth is an administrative borough in southwest London, stretching from the Thames riverbank to residential neighborhoods further south. The area includes parks, shopping streets, and several bridges that link both sides of the river.
The area once belonged to the county of Surrey and became a separate administrative borough in 1900. Its current form emerged in 1965, when several districts merged into one larger borough.
The name comes from an old word for the River Wandle, which flows through the area and once powered mills. Today you can see walking paths and green spaces along the river, used by locals for strolling and jogging.
The borough is easy to reach by train, especially through Clapham Junction station, where many lines stop. Bus connections cross the area in different directions and make it simple to move between neighborhoods.
Clapham Junction is one of the busiest train stations in all of Britain, with over two thousand trains passing through the station daily. The high train frequency makes it a key hub for commuters from many parts of London and the surrounding areas.
