Ramshorn Theatre, Category A listed theatre in Merchant City, Glasgow, Scotland
Ramshorn Theatre is a Gothic Revival building on Ingram Street featuring ornate stained glass windows and carved stone work throughout its facade and interior. The structure displays characteristic features such as pointed arch windows and intricate architectural detailing typical of the period.
The building was constructed in 1824 as St David's Parish Church and functioned as a place of worship for more than 150 years before being acquired by the University of Strathclyde in 1992. Following its purchase, the space was converted to serve as a performance venue.
The building retains its original religious visual identity through stained glass windows depicting biblical scenes and ornate stone details that remain central to its interior character. These artistic elements continue to shape how visitors experience the space today.
The site is located near Buchanan Street Underground station and is easily accessible on foot from the city center. The interior can sometimes be viewed during special events and exhibitions since the space now primarily hosts language programs and cultural activities.
The building is the only one in Scotland designed by architect Thomas Rickman, making it a rare example of work by this notable English designer. An adjacent cemetery holds graves of Scottish merchants from earlier centuries.
