Rosebank Cemetery, Cemetery in northeast Edinburgh, Scotland
Rosebank Cemetery sits between Pilrig Street and Broughton Road in northeast Edinburgh, covering roughly 4 hectares (11 acres) of ground. The burial ground holds numerous stone monuments and gravestones arranged across its landscaped setting.
The Edinburgh and Leith Cemetery Company established this burial ground in 1846 under the architectural design of David Cousin. It developed into a significant place of burial for the city's residents throughout the 19th century.
A Celtic cross memorial stands in the grounds to honor 215 Royal Scots soldiers who lost their lives in the Quintinshill Rail Disaster. The monument serves as a focal point for remembrance and reflection on this tragic event.
The burial ground is open 24 hours a day and can be accessed through the entrance on Pilrig Street. It is maintained by Edinburgh City Council and is easily located using postcode EH6 5BB for navigation.
Three graves at the center of the burial ground belong to servants of Queen Victoria who worked at Holyrood Palace. The headstones were paid for by the monarch herself, marking a rare gesture of royal regard.
